Look for Andy West and his assistant, Darryll O'Connor, on Saturday, Feb. 3, from 11 a.m. - 3 p.m. as they shape and sculpt lines in the sand just south of Rehoboth Avenue.
For more than a decade, Andy watched while others played at the annual Rehoboth Beach Sandcastle Contest.
Then in 2005, West decided it was time to just dig in, literally, and join friends who had been participating in the event and willingly sharing lessons and tips over the years.
Andy has finished in the Top 10 in the Rehoboth contest for the past nine years. During summer and fall weekends, you can usually find him carving on the beach at Cape Henlopen State Park.
