The Pooch Parade & Plunge takes place at 11 a.m. on the Saturday of the Weekend Festival beginning on the boardwalk at the end of Rehoboth Avenue. It was created to allow Pooches (and their owners) the opportunity to support the same great cause -- Special Olympics Delaware -- so many others are during the Plunge Weekend Festival.
Unlike the Sunday Bears, who traipse into the roaring waves of the Atlantic Ocean, the leashed Pooches will dress up -- all costumes welcome, prizes given for best costume AND best polar-inspired costume -- and parade in front of hundreds of spectators before making the individual decision whether to splash along the shoreline going in as far as they wish, or just stick to prancing in the sand.
The $25 registration fee includes an official Pooch Plunge dog bandanna and portable pooch bowl.
Just like our Sunday Bears do, Pooches are encouraged to get their owners' friends to support their valiant plunge by creating a FirstGiving page.
